Recipe: Yummy Good Crescent Rolls

I LOVE my Yummy Good Rolls recipe.  It is truly a super easy recipe that is started in the bread maker.  I recently decided to try something different with my tried and true recipe....I made crescent rolls.  It really wasn't any more difficult than making regular rolls.  My kids had fun helping me roll them up and shaping them into crescents.  Before we rolled them up, we spread butter all over the dough and the end result was butter yummy goodness.

Enjoy!

Yummy Good Rolls
(recipe by Wende Rickett/The Rickett Chronicles)

Ingredients
3/4 to 1 cup water, depending on the weather (if it is humid outside, I use less water; if it is dry, more water)
1 egg
3 tbsp butter
3 1/2 cups AP flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp yeast
2 tbsp butter, melted

Directions
Add ingredients to the bread maker as suggested by the manufacturer.  Once the dough cycle is complete, turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead a couple of times. Divide the dough in half.  Shape each half into a round.  Spread melted butter onto surface.  Cut round into 8 to 10 pieces (like a pizza). Roll each piece starting with the widest end.  Place each piece on a greased baking pan.  Shape the rolled dough into a half moon. Cover and let rise until doubled in volume, about an hour.  Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.  Brush the rolls with butter.

Must Try Tuesday: June 21, 2011

Today is the first day of summer and our summer is in full swing!  We are swimming in the morning or evenings; watching movies in the afternoon (to avoid the very hot part of the day) and playing softball.  We had our first heat advisory a couple of days ago.  I kid you not that we had a 6 PM game the other day and it was 105 degrees.  I am not cooking as much to try to avoid heating up our house, but there are a couple of recipes here that I might just have to crank the oven on for.

Hope you are all enjoying these long summer days!  Enjoy!

The Versatile Blogger Award

Isn't it nice when you get recognition from others?  Thank you so much to Brandy at Brandy's Baking for thinking of me for The Versatile Blogger award.  How awesome!

As you know, I have included several of her recipes on my Must Try Tuesday posts.  I also have a ton bookmarked.  Now that things have slowed down a bit around here, I can't wait to get in the kitchen to try some of them out.

There are a few rules that go along with this award, so here they are:
1.  Thank the person that gave you the award by linking back to them in your post.   Share the love!
2.  Tell us 7 things about yourself.
3.  Pass the award onto a few bloggers that you've recently discovered.
4.  Contact those bloggers and let them know the exciting news.

OK....seven things about myself....
1.  I live in a very small town in Texas that only has 800 residents.
2.  I love to read but rarely do because I am so busy taking care of my family.  Now that my girls are getting older, I seem to have a little more time to myself and hope to start reading more.
3.  I love to try new recipes.  We have some family favorites that I make, but we don't usually eat the same things over and over again because I am always trying new recipes.
4.  Our family doesn't eat seafood.  My husband and I don't like it, but we made sure to keep our opinions to ourselves when it came to our kids.  They tried it and didn't like it either....is there a "I hate seafood" gene that we somehow passed to our kids???
5.  I channel my inner teenager....I LOVE the Twilight movies....
6.  I am an 80's kid and I still listen to 80's music....I heart Duran Duran.
7.  I love Dr. Pepper.  I have cut back on my intake but there are those days when I HAVE to have one....or two....sometimes three....

Here are some of my new favorite blogs!

Thanks again to Brandy at Brandy's Baking for thinking of me!

Menu Plan: Week of June 12, 2011

It has been ages since I have posted a weekly menu plan.  Honestly, it has been ages since I actually planned one.  Things were so crazy around here with the end of school, softball practice and games and moving, that I actually didn't have time to plan menus.  I should have because it would have made life much simpler instead of scrambling at the grocery store trying to come up with something on the fly.  So, to help easy the dinnertime craziness, I am trying my very best to get a menu together weekly.

It is already hotter than you know what here in Texas so I am trying not to heat up my kitchen with cooking a lot of meals that require the oven.  Hailey had her tonsils removed a couple of days ago, so I am also trying to incorporate softer foods for her.  However, if it were up to her, she would be eating ice cream and ice pops, but I am trying to get a little more nutritious food in her.

Here is what we will be eating this week:

Meal 1
Lasagna Rollups
Salad
Garlic Bread

Meal 2
Chicken Sandwiches with Wingers Sauce
Hash browns

Meal 3
Fried Pork Chops
Mom's Squash Delight
Green Beans

Meal 4
Tacos w/fixings

Meal 5
Pancakes!!!

Meal 6
Sloppy Jo's
Tater tots
Salad

Must Try Tuesday: June 7, 2011

Our summer break is in full swing.  The pool is up and the girls have been swimming almost every day.  Zoey is still playing softball and her team is undefeated at 8 and 0.  She is getting better and better everyday.  We also moved over the weekend to a little house back in the woods.  The cows are no longer our neighbors but we have seen lots of deer and bunny rabbits.

It was so hard to choose the best of the best this week.  Here are some that look so good.....

Enjoy!

Best Desserts Ever!

We saved the BEST desserts for last!  There's magic all over Disneyland.....even in their desserts!

If you walk to Critter Country and go around the back of splash mountain you'll find this great section where magical desserts are made!  There's a small meet and greet section for the winnie the pooh characters and right beyond that is this shop. You can buy your normal items like clothes, toys and pins however in this shop you'll find some treats that are worth every penny!

After grabbing their autographs run over and check out the desserts.  If your lucky you'll get to see some of those desserts being made.

These are chocolate covered marshmallows getting the Disney treatment!

Yes that's right ....those are tigger marshmallows on a stick!  The lady in front of me said that those are dipped in caramel first, then chocolate with some orange sprinkles and chocolate for the stripes. OMG Yummy!

Chocolate covered strawberries with nuts.

Mickey Pecan Nut Clusters and Mickey Almond Nut Clusters.  Those look amazing!

For those that just love rice crispy treats look no further! They have HUGE bars of them waiting for you!

If you prefer a cookie there are plenty of those to pick from too!

 Mickey and Minnie sugar cookies!

Above:  At Disney you can even find sugar free desserts!  Here they have a sugar free Pecan Caramel Pattie or you can get a sugar free chocolate covered pretzel.

My favorite at this shop by far are the chocolate covered apples. Everyone has seen a chocolate covered apple but you've never seen chocolate covered apples like this! Disney really brings out the magic here!

Congrats to the class of 2011

Hunny pots and Jack!

Can't forget about mickey and minnie!

The World of Color Apple! Even at that price it's worth every penny!

We got a chance to go to a meet and greet breakfast with some great characters. Of course I searched for desserts there too and found some!

Lemon Bars

Chocolate Chip, oatmeal raisin, pound cake, lemon bar and chocolate rice crispy treats.

 Bread pudding and Fruit cobbler.

Every where you turn in the Disneyland park you can find a great dessert!  We had a blast walking the park, going on rides and eating desserts!
